What we offer
All members of our team have excellent newborn experience. They might be paediatric nurses, midwives, maternity nurses, paramedics, health visitors or qualified nannies with extensive newborn experience. Some have specialist skills with twins and triplets. They all have enhanced CRB disclosures and recent paediatric first aid certificates.
Please check for the availability of each of these services with your regional contact.
Night Nannies
Your Night Nanny will arrive at 9pm and leave at 7am. These hours can be more flexible if pre-arranged directly with the nanny. She will not only care for your child, but will also guide your child to sleep through the night. The Agency will do its utmost to give you the same Nanny for the entire period that you require – for a maximum of up to three months. After this time, your Night Nanny will have established a good sleep routine for your baby. You can have a Night Nanny for anywhere between 1 and 6 nights a week.
A Night Nanny will do any of the following:
- night feeds
- change nappies
- settle the baby
- prepare and sterilise bottles
- dress and prepare the baby in the morning
- give help and advice on getting the baby into a sleep routine
- offer strategies on coping with post-natal depression
- stay longer in the mornings to allow you a lie-in
- give advice on breast-feeding
- she is NOT responsible for domestic cleaning or laundry
Our Policy
In line with current medical opinion, Night Nannies will only start guiding babies to sleep through the night once they are on solids, which is normally from about 5-6 months old. Up until that time babies will need to feed at 3 or 4 hourly intervals, although from age 3 months a baby may naturally start going a little longer between feeds.
Maternity Nurses
Your Maternity Nurse will stay 24 hours a day for up to six days a week. She can be booked for placements of one week up to six weeks, depending on your requirements. She will develop a 24 hour routine for your baby focussing on effective feeding and sleeping patterns and ensuring that the new baby settles quickly and easily into your family. She will also ensure that the mother is well-looked after, getting enough sleep and eating and drinking properly. A maternity nurse will also undertake the baby’s laundry and can help with essential purchases – and advise on the non-essential!
Trouble-shooters
This is a highly specialist part of the team who have expertise in training older babies (from 6 months to 5 years) to sleep through the night. They will explain their strategies (which are tailored to your specific needs) to you beforehand so that you will understand what is happening. They will NOT abandon your baby to cry but will implement consistent methods in a calm manner so that your child understands what is expected. Once your child is sleeping through the night you will notice a significant change for the better in his behaviour, his attention and his sleeping habits.
Doulas
An ante-natal doula is like a professional birth partner. She will come to your ante-natal classes with you, help you write a birth plan and ensure that, as far as possible, it is followed once you are in labour. She will assist you throughout the birth of your baby liaising between the medical staff and the mother. A post-natal doula is much like an old-fashioned granny. She will take siblings to school, undertake laundry, shopping, cooking and light housework as well as helping you with your new baby. A doula does not live-in.
Super-Nannies
A Super-Nanny will come to your home during the day to resolve problems like weaning, transition from breast to bottle feeding, potty-training, nutritional advice, table-manners, behavioural issues, sibling rivalry, discipline issues, feeding and sleeping routines.
Breast-Feeding Counselling
Some of our Night Nannies have expertise in breast-feeding counselling. They will carry out a home or hospital visit to resolve any issues you may be having early on.
First Aid Training for Parents
In some regions, parents are offered the opportunity to attend Paediatric First Aid Courses, run by qualified First Aid Trainers, which are specifically tailored to the care of young babies and toddlers.
Parenting Skills Workshops
We offer an 8-week Parenting Skills Course, taking place every Tuesday morning at Night Nannies in London. This will give you the opportunity to enhance your parenting skills and will include sibling rivalry, discipline issues, teenage problems, step families and bereavement amongst other topics.
